Christmas Market tour of the Balkans: Vilnius, Lithuania – Part 3 Walking Tour

This post will be mostly pictures because it was impossible to take notes on some of these. Enjoy!

wine shop

Building that was a tea/teapot shop last century is now a wine shop.

As we walked through Old Town, there were many alcoves with small shops scattered around smaller apartment complexes.

christmas train

Vilnius runs a Christmas Train that helps younger shoppers get to the Christmas market from the top of the Old Town.

travel coffee shop

A popular picture spot is this Traveler’s Coffee shop.

Merchants contribute to the magical atmosphere by decorating their storefronts. The second picture contained the best example of Lithuanian donuts per our tour guide. Imagine biting into a super tender vanilla cake cloud, not too sweet but still a treat. While I was there I also tried a Cremian pastry, which was a turnover with a farmer cheese filling with minced peppers and spices.

baked goods

One of our last stops was an engineering library. There are 5 million books inside, which is more than double the population of Lithuania.

The city also sponsors an outdoor ice skating rink. It is free in the morning during the week and was packed.

And finally, in the spirit of recycle/reuse, the former Astoria hotel is now a Radisson and a favorite picture spot in front of the blue moon.
